Science platforms and infrastructures

The intention of the list below is to provide an online gateway to Arctic research vessels and stations. We encourage our visitors to inform the FARO Secretariat about relevant web sites to be included in the list.

An overview of research stations and vessels at both poles can be found at the EU funded project POLARIN – Polar Research Infrastructure Network.

Polardex is an online platform for polar infrastructure developed by the EPB. Polardex is a tool for polar scientists and planners, and the platform lists key polar infrastructures in both the Arctic and the Antarctic.

Workshop on International Access to Research Infrastructure in the Arctic

Workshop held during ASSW 2021, March 23, 2021

Organized by FARO, APECS, ARICE, and INTERACT

The purpose of the workshop was to initiate dialogue and develop networks that facilitate access for international scientists to national research facilities and infrastructure in the Arctic , with the three goals of; identifying challenges, best practices, and possible next steps for improved collaboration. Physical access to research infrastructure in the Arctic – polar research vessels, stations, and aircraft - is essential for polar science. This workshop report highlights the major challenges , best practices, and next steps/recommendations identified for land based and marine based groups.
